Bright Lights, Big Tour

FIDM Students Explore the Big Apple on Study Tour

Welcome to New York City; home of The Rockettes, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, and of course, major influential fashion, design, and retail industries!

Every fall, a group of FIDM students travels to New York City for a week-long study tour. Students get an inside view of the N.Y. scene and a wonderful opportunity to meet FIDM alumni working in a wide range of hot industries. This year, 36 students from all four campuses came together to experience the bright lights and big city.

The week was jam-packed with industry appointments! From visual communications to fashion design, each student's major was represented during visits to stores, showrooms, and design studios of FIDM alumni. They also met a hot up-and-coming designer and visited a brand new store from London that has just opened in N.Y. The group also attended a gala alumni dinner for more New York-style networking!

No trip to New York City would be complete without a great show. The group caught the Tony Award-winning production Aida, a contemporary adaptation of Giuseppe Verdi's grand opera. Pop star Elton John composed the music for the visually stunning Aida and was in the audience for that night's performance!

Besides all the wonderful events, students also took in the city sights via tour bus. They explored the famous Metropolitan Museum of Art and spent plenty of time engaging in New York City's favorite pastime - shopping!
