European Study Tour
Culture 101 - A Taste of Europe
Each year FIDM students, escorted by instructors and administrators, participate
in specialized study tours of major design cities around the world. This year's
participants traveled to London, Paris and Rome for a full two weeks of cultural
enrichment, design inspiration and exploration. About half the group were
fashion design students
and the rest were from the Merchandise
Marketing, Product Development,
Graphic Design and Visual
Communication majors.
The agenda included museum visits, city tours, visits to fashion designers,
retailers, and a men's clothing manufacturer, as well as free time to explore
the cities. Some favorites were the Victoria & Albert Museum tour, the
Design Museum's Bauhaus Exhibit tour and the Eiffle tower in Paris with it's
Millennium light display.

One student said that at the Designer's Guild, she learned how "they took elements of design from all over the world and from different people - then related that to the products they made for sale" which helped her to understand her role as a product developer.
Tours are offered once a year and are open to all students who are currently enrolled at FIDM. If you would like to find out more about our Study Tours see the the FIDM study tour page, or contact a FIDM admissions advisor at 213.624.1201.
